Wanting to expand my comfort level with line art, minimal use of color, creating a grid-based typeface uniquely for a logo, and push outside of my safe design choices, I re-designed a logo for The Desert Box, a monthly subscription cactus and succulent box. Their current logo features a stretched web font, displays a lack of balance and harmony, and uses a radial pastel gradient, which I wanted to clean and modernize. Pulling from their reductive graphic content featuring two silhouettes of plants, I sought to create a specific echeveria succulent in linear form and the abandon their left-aligned type to produce a grid-based system of letter forms that could stand on their own without the graphic if desired.
